If you were able to come on Saturday, March 8th, thank you for your support.
If you are not able to come on Saturday, March 8th, I hope I can count on your vote on Saturday April 5th.
Three years ago I asked for your vote as I campaigned to become a member of the Arlington School Committee. I joined the Committee during a time of cuts and reductions in staff and programs. I am happy to say that we have not only turned the corner but continue to grow in excellence.
September 15, 2013 was the official ribbon cutting of the new Thompson School. It truly was an exciting afternoon. The main theme of the day was one of families coming together to get things done. This philosophy has been reflected in our teachers, administrators and staff who, each day, continue to give of themselves unselfishly to our children with untiring devotion to excellence.
This year will be historic in that the Arlington School System will inaugurate a new Evaluation System for the entire staff. The teaching staff and administrators will be implementing the Common Core of Studies, a new national curriculum. Some of the staff, and over the next three years the entire staff, will be trained in a program for ELL, English language learners. Once more we will ask our staff to do all of this plus their regular responsibilities, teaching our children. When you get a chance, THANK A TEACHER!
I have used my legal and education background on a daily basis while being a member of the School Committee. I have used these skills in successfully negotiating six labor contracts and a new evaluation system for teachers and administrators. I have worked with staff and administrators to improve the conditions in the Menotomy Pre-school. The one achievement I am most proud of was working with parents and staff to bring about free all-day kindergarten for all of Arlington residents.
It is my sincere hope that the work I have done during the past three years has justified your vote and will help me get re-elected on Saturday April 5, 2014.
